These requirements cover Type ITC instrumentation control cables consisting of two or more current-carrying copper or thermocouple alloy conductors with or without either or both:a) Grounding conductor(s), bare or insulated, and b) One or more optical-fiber members, all under an overall jacket.These electrical and composite electrical/optical-fiber cables are intended for use (optical and electrical functions associated in the case of a hybrid cable) on circuits rated 150 V or less and 5 A or less in accordance with Article 727 and other applicable parts of the National Electrical Code (NEC). These cables are rated 300 V but are not so marked. Cables for direct-burial are so marked. Jacketed Type ITC cables comply with one of the following 70,000 Btu/h (20.5 kW) vertical-tray flame tests: a) The UL test referenced in 35.2.1 - 35.2.2 of these requirements. These paragraphs apply the test method described as the UL Flame Exposure (smoke measurements are not applicable) in the Standard for Vertical-Tray Fire-Propagation and Smoke-Release Test for Electrical and Optical-Fiber Cables, UL 1685. b) The FT4/IEEE 1202 test referenced in 35.3.1 of these requirements. This paragraph applies the test method described as the FT4/IEEE 1202 Type of Flame Exposure (smoke measurements are not applicable) in UL 1685. c) For limited-smoke cable, either the UL test or the FT4/IEEE 1202 test referenced in 35.4.1 and 35.4.2 of these requirements. These paragraphs apply the test methods described in UL 1685 with smoke measurements included.

Scope: 1.1 This Standard specifies the requirements for insulating tubing that is usually round in cross-section and that consists entirely of extruded compounds whose characteristic constituents are thermosetting, elastomeric, or thermoplastic polymers (see Table 1 for materials and ratings). These requirements also cover heat-shrinkable and crosslinked tubing. A product for use at temperatures greater than indicated in Table 1 or a different polymer may be acceptable provided that a) it meets the performance tests in this Standard for a polymer that is similar; and b) long-term heat-aging tests are conducted as covered in UL 746B or C22.2 No. 0.17, using elongation as the primary property. 1.2 Tubing is intended for use only in air - in dry and damp locations - as part of the internal wiring of electrical devices and appliances in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code, Part 1 (CE Code, Part 1) and ANSI/NFPA 70, National Electrical Code (NEC). It may be used for insulating one or more inadequately insulated conductors, bus bars, motor leads, transformer leads, terminal lugs, or small assemblies of electronic components. Tubing is not intended for use in contact with sharp edges, corners, or projections, or where subject to tension, compression, or repeated flexing. Tubing is not intended for use where it is feasible to employ a standard insulated conductor (appliance-wiring material) intended specifically for the purpose. 1.3 These requirements do not apply to fabric tubing, chemically dilated tubing, polymeric tubing extruded with reinforcement, or tubing intended only for mechanical protection. 1.4 The acceptability of tubing in any particular device or appliance depends upon its acceptability for continued use under the conditions that prevail in actual service. Accordingly, for a particular application, it will in some cases be necessary to employ tubing having features other than or in addition to those specified in these requirements. For example, tubing may be required to have a heavier wall thickness or a flat rather than a round cross-section; it may be required to have inherent resistance to the effects of immersion in water, oil, solvents, or other liquids (or their vapors); it may be required to be used in an environment conducive to the development of fungi and similar organisms.

1.1 These requirements cover the shielded and - medium-voltage power cables that are described in Tables 1.1 (single-conductor) and 1.2 (multiple-conductor). Multiple-conductor cables may include one or more individually jacketed non-conductive optical-fiber members. These electrical and hybrid electrical and optical-fiber cables are for use (optical and electrical functions associated in the case of a hybrid cable) in accordance with Article 328 and other applicable parts of the National Electrical Code (NEC), ANSI/NFPA 70. These cables have one or more stranded copper or aluminum conductors that are insulated with a solid, extruded dielectric. Cables that have a metal sheath or interlocked armor incorporate an effective grounding path. A grounding conductor is optional in other cables. Cables for direct burial are so marked and have an overall covering (see 1.4 for direct-burial cables that are not covered). Cables that are for use in cable trays generally are so marked (see 62.1 and 62.2). Cables that are sunlight-resistant generally are so marked (see 64.1 - 64.3). Cables that are marked "MV-90" or "MV-90 dry" have a maximum operating temperature of 90鳦 (194鳩). Cables that are marked "MV-105" have a maximum operating temperature of 105鳦 (221鳩) for use where design conditions require a maximum conductor temperature above 90鳦 (194鳩). Cables that are marked "dry" have insulation for use only in dry locations. All other cables have insulation that is for use in both wet and dry locations. Multiple-conductor cables that include one or more optical-fiber members are surface marked to so indicate. Cables that are marked "oil resistant II" are for exposure to mineral oil at temperatures not in excess of 75鳦 (167鳩). Cables that are marked "oil resistant I" are for exposure to mineral oil at temperatures not in excess of 60鳦 (140鳩). A multiple-conductor Type MV cable that has a smooth (other than lead) or corrugated metal sheath or that has interlocked metal armor may be marked for use also as Type MC cable. This standard does not include requirements for cables with concentric neutral conductors. However, it is possible to have a single-conductor cable with a concentric neutral conductor manufactured in accordance with the requirements of other standards, that meets the requirements for jacketed single-conductor shielded cable in this standard.

These cables also comply with the requirements for cables in ducts,plenums, and other spaces used for environmental air in accordance with Articles 725, 760, 770, 800,820, and 830 of the 2002 National Electrical Code.
